specie overview

American Oak TImber

The two most common types of this hardwood timber are American White Oak and American Red Oak. Both grow in the eastern part of the United States and are similar in appearance. The main difference is that American Red Oak has slightly smaller rays and therefore a less pronounced figure compared to American White Oak. At Mortlock Timber, we use American White Oak because of its prominent grain pattern and stunning look when used for interiors.

Colour Variation

This beautiful hardwood ranges from pale yellow-brown to mid-brown, sometimes with a pink tinge. People often believe that certain colours are only available with American Red Oak, but in reality, the timber has the same colour variations as American White Oak. The tree’s name actually derives from its red foliage and not the timber’s colour.
